Is It a Cold or Flu?

How can you tell the difference?
1. Flu comes with a fever. The common cold rarely has an elevated temperature. However, a high fever is definitely a characteristic of the flu. It usually runs between 100 & 102 degrees & sometimes higher, particularly with children, and lasts 3 to 4 days. If you start with a runny nose, scratchy throat & sneezing, then it is probably a cold. The flu usually comes on suddenly. 2. The flu makes you feel awful. The flu, also, usually has severe aches & pains. Coughing is continual and lasts longer. And weakness & exhaustion can be intense. While a cold might lead to sinus congestion in adults or an ear infection in children, the flu could develop into bronchitis, pneumonia or a brain infection for high-risk people, such as children younger than 2 & adults older than 65. 3. Medication doesn't help a cold. Cold & flu are caused by viruses. There’s no cure for a cold. Get plenty of fluids & rest for the cold or flu.
