Stress Management

1. First Identify the Source.
This is the first key to learning how to cope with stress. We are surrounded constantly by stress & all kinds will eventually build up affecting our health.
2. Check Your Reaction.
The second most important step for stress management is examining how you react to daily stressors. Once you recognize your reactions, you can learn new stress management skills.
3. Make Emotional & Physical Changes.
Learn to reduce tension by using constructive emotional & physical changes. Try using some of the following:
  • Physical Activity- Start a physical program, either join a gym or just start walking.
  • Nutrition- Eat more fruits & vegetables. This will improve your health & well-being.
  • Social Support- Make an effort to talk to friends or family. Talk about your problems. Get feedback & support.
  • Relaxation- Use relaxation techniques like breathing exercises, listening to music, getting a massage, or practicing meditation.
  • Play with a Pet- Research shows that playing with a pet or just petting one rasies serotonin & dopamine levels leaving you feeling relaxed & happier.

*Being more physically active, eating a healthier diet, & taking time to relax can significantly reduce stress & risk of future chronic disease.

What are PhytoNutrients?
Also called phytochemicals, phytonutrients are natural bioactive compounds found in fruits & vegetables that work together with vitamins, minerals, & fiber to promote good health. These phytochemicals have been found to have properties to aid in disease prevention. 4 of the leading causes of death in the Western countries include: cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, & hypertension. Phytochemicals are associated with the prevention &/or treatment of these diseases. They are involved in preventing cell damage, preventing cancer cell replication, & decreasing cholesterol.
