Walking for Better Memory

Aerobic exercise works on 2 levels. It is good for your body & great for your mind,
according to the latest research from brain-fitness pioneer, Arthur Kramer. Consider
this: the hippocampus, a region in your brain that is key to your memory, shrinks 1-2%
every year as we age increasing the risk of dementia. However, Kramer's investigation
reveals that the hippocampi of adults grew by 2% over a year simply by walking briskly
45 minutes a day 3 times a week. Thus, staving off age-related shrinking, it is never too
late to start exercising. It doesn't need to be strenuous. Just anything that raises your
heart rate seems to work. Walking is fine or anything you like to do.
I not only like to exercise, but I like to take Remind® from Omnitrition®. This nutritional supplement aides in focus & memory. Omnitrition's Remind is brain food!

10 Foods to Help Prevent Cancer

1. Add garlic to everything you eat.
Garlic contains sulfur compounds that may stimulate the immune system’s natural defenses against cancer, & may have the potential to reduce tumor growth. Studies suggest that garlic can reduce the incidence of stomach cancer by as much as a factor of 12!
2. Eat broccoli, but have it steamed or raw.
Broccoli is a cancer-preventing superfood, one you should eat frequently. However, a Spanish study found that microwaving broccoli destroys 97 % of the vegetable’s cancer-protective flavonoids. So steam it, eat it raw as a snack, or add it to soups & salads.

3. Have some Brazil nuts & put in your salad.
They’re a rich form of selenium, a trace mineral that convinces cancer cells to commit suicide & helps cells repair their DNA. A Harvard study of more than 1,000 men with prostate cancer found those with the highest blood levels of selenium were 48 % less likely to develop advanced disease over 13 years than men with the lowest levels. And a dramatic five-year study conducted at Cornell University & the University of Arizona showed that 200 micrograms of selenium daily , the amount in two unshelled Brazil nuts, resulted in 63 % fewer prostate tumors, 58 % fewer colorectal cancers, 46 % fewer lung malignancies, & 39 % overall decrease in cancer deaths.

4. Have some fresh lemonade or limeade.
A daily dose of citrus fruits may cut the risk of mouth, throat, & stomach cancers by half, Australian researchers found.
5. Add half a cup of blueberries with your cereal.
Blueberries rank number one in terms of their antioxidant power. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals, which are unstable compounds that can damage cells & to diseases including cancer.
6. Eat artichokes tonight.
Artichokes are a great source of silymarin, an antioxidant that may help prevent skin cancer. To eat these delicious veggies, peel off the tough outer leaves on the bottom, slice the bottom, & cut off the spiky top. Then boil or steam until tender, about 30-45 minutes. Drain. Dip each leaf in a vinaigrette or garlic mayonnaise, then gently tear the fibrous covering off with your front teeth, working your way inward to the tender heart. Once there, gently scoop the bristles from the middle of the heart, dip in a little butter or lemon juice, & enjoy!
7. Fix some salmon on the grill for dinner.
Australian researchers studying Canadians found those who ate 4 or more servings of fish per week were nearly 1/3 less likely to develop the blood cancers leukemia, myeloma, & non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Other studies show a link between eating fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, halibut, sardines, and tuna, as well as shrimp & scallops) with a reduced risk of endometrial cancer in women. Amazing omega-3s at it again!

8. Have some kiwifruit.
Kiwi is a little hand grenade of cancer-fighting antioxidants, including vitamin C, vitamin E, lutein, & copper. You can also rub a couple of cut kiwifruit on a low-fat cut of meat as a tenderizer.
9. Put some scallions in your salad.
A diet high in onions may reduce the risk of prostate cancer by 50 %. But the effects are strongest when they’re eaten raw or lightly cooked. So try scallions, Vidalia onions, shallots, or chives for a milder taste.

10. Serve sauerkraut.
A Finnish study found that the fermentation process involved in making sauerkraut produces several other cancer-fighting compounds, including ITCs, indoles,& sulforaphane. To reduce the sodium content, rinse canned or jarred sauerkraut before eating.
Omnitrition® & Omni4me have some great nutritional supplements that, also, provide great antioxidants & cancer fighting ingredients!

What are PhytoNutrients?
Phytonutrients are nutrients derived from plants that have been shown to be necessary for sustaining life. Also called phytochemicals, phytonutrients are natural bioactive compounds found in fruits & vegetables that work together with vitamins, minerals, & fiber to promote good health. These phytochemicals have been found to have properties to aid in disease prevention. 4 of the leading causes of death in the Western countries include: cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, & hypertension. Phytochemicals are associated with the prevention &/or treatment of these diseases. They are involved in preventing cell damage, preventing cancer cell replication, & decreasing cholesterol.

The Best Nuts to Eat for Nutrition

Nuts are frequently recommended by health professionals to enjoy in moderation for maximum benefits. Nuts contain the heart-healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats as well as omega-3 fatty acids, L-arginine, fiber, vitamin E, and plant sterols. Nuts also contain antioxidants such as ellagic acid to protect the body's cells from damaging free radicals. Nuts can be great sources of potassium, magnesium, calcium, copper, manganese, and zinc.

Walnuts are considered nutritional powerhouses, highest in omega-3 fats and packed with antioxidants. A 1-oz. serving of walnuts is 185 calories, in the mid-range for nuts. Walnuts are heart-healthy as well as anti-inflammatory. They are considered a very good source of manganese and a good source of both copper and tryptophan. The healthy fats in walnuts can quickly oxidize, so keep them stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Walnuts
Almonds are an especially good source of vitamin E as well as fiber, riboflavin, and heart healthy monounsaturated fats. According to George Mateljan in "The World's Healthiest Foods," almonds promote heart health, healthy weight and digestive system health. One ounce of dry roasted unsalted almonds, about 22, contains 169 calories. Almonds sold in the baking section of the grocery store are usually unsalted and are a healthier, less expensive alternative to the roasted and salted almonds in the snack section.

Almonds
Peanuts are in fact, legumes and not nuts. This is because they grow underground as opposed to growing on trees like walnuts and almonds. Peanuts are higher in protein than most nuts and good sources of manganese, tryptophan, niacin, folate and copper. Like most nuts, peanuts contain heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. A 1-oz. serving of dry roasted, unsalted peanuts contains 166 calories. For the best nutritional bet, choose unsalted peanuts that are raw or have been dry roasted. Oil roasted peanuts contribute more calories and often contain less healthy fats.
Peanuts
Despite their buttery texture, cashews have a lower fat content than most nuts. Cashews contain a substantial amount of oleic acid, the same heart healthy monounsaturated fat found in olive oil. Cashew nuts are a rich source of copper and magnesium. One of the lower calorie types of nuts, 1 oz. of cashews contains 157 calories.

Cashews
Pistachios in particular are especially valuable in lowering cholesterol and helping you get enough healthy fat in your diet. Just a small handful of pistachios offer a healthy dose of fats, antioxidants, vitamin A, and vitamin E. Antioxidants are essential for protecting skin and cells from aging and disease, and are involved with removing toxins from the body. Healthy fats are important for younger-looking skin and keeping the body in balance; getting enough dietary fat can reduce cravings and help suppress the appetite. Some studies suggest that pistachios can help manage high cholesterol levels by keeping arteries healthy. Researchers reported a positive effect on HDL levels in a study published in the journal Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases.
Health Benefits of Pistachios
So next time nix the junk food & reach for a handful of nuts. Not only does eating nuts regularly reduce the risk of heart attacks by up to 50%, it may also have cancer-preventing properties.

Holiday Eating Tips

I don't know about you, but to me, Christmas means cookies & candy & eating lots of food at parties. So how do you keep from overdoing it? My first tip is: if you don't have it in your home, then you are much less likely to eat it. But what do you do at a party?
  1. Eat before you go. Don't go hungry. Of course, eat something healthy.
  2. Go to the gym before going. This will kick up your metabolism so your body is burning the calories & continues for awhile after exercising.
  3. Walk around & decide what you are going to have before indulging. Try to stick to the healthier items.
  4. Walk around taking your time eating & visiting will give your body a chance to tell you when it is full.
  5. Watch out for the calories in drinks! Think about eggnog & alcoholic beverages.
  6. Eat dessert, but don't go overboard.
  7. Avoid the gelled cranberry sauce. It is pure sugar.
  8. Don't fall for the pressure from friends, family, or your mother.
  9. Don't beat yourself up, if you splurged too much. It is only one day. Get back on track & go to the gym the next day.

Look what else helps:

Omnitrition's Charge® is an appetite suppressant!
Omnitrim Extra Enhancer® helps stop food cravings!
OmniTrim Chito® helps block calories from fat!
Phaso Trim® helps block calories from carbs!

Take action! Add more tomatoes to your diet!

That's right! Any kind of tomato, whether canned, in sauce, juice, raw, even ketchup, makes a big difference to your health! One of the best benefits you will get from consuming tomatoes is lycopene, an antioxidant that helps in the fight against cancer cell formation, as well as other types of health problems & diseases.

Or ....you can get your antioxidants in Shield® from Omnitrition®.  Let Omni4Me.com be your provider for good health & nutrition!
Tomatoes are, also, a superfood. Here is why:
  1. Eating 7 or more servings a week cuts the risk of cardiovascular disease by 30%, which could be from the lycopene or Vitamin C, potassium, & fiber.
  2. Men lowered their risk of prostate cancer by 24 to 36%.
  3. Studies suggest tomatoes reduce the risk of osteoporosis & asthma & may improve circulation & reduce inflammation.
  4. Those who were prediabetic had lycopene levels 6% lower than those of healthy people & newly diagnosed diabetics had 17% less.
To get the full vitamin C impact: serve tomatoes raw, like in a salad, because heat destroys vitamin C. However, cooking tomatoes in oil will give you the maximum lycopene benefit, because oils helps with lycopene absorption. So have your salad or drink some low-sodium tomato juice!

Which has more vitamin C: a cup of broccoli or an orange?

Did you know that one cup of broccoli contains more vitamin C than an orange? And a medium red pepper has even more vitamin C than an orange or broccoli!

Get the answer and learn more about the benefits of this vitamin.  What Is It?
Vitamin C (a.k.a. ascorbic acid) is one of many water-soluble vitamins. Because our bodies don’t store water-solubles well, you should make vitamin C-rich foods part of your everyday diet to get a steady supply. You may also spot “ascorbic acid” in the ingredients on some packaged foods — it’s sometimes added to foods to help them maintain freshness and color.

Why Is It Good for You?
Vitamin C forms collagen, a fibrous material that makes our body’s connective tissue and keeps skin, hair and nails vibrant and strong. This vitamin also increases your body’s absorption of iron. If you need to get more iron, try mixing vitamin C-rich foods with iron-rich foods to make sure you get the best of both.

Vitamin C also acts as an antioxidant to decrease inflammation and prevent damage to your body’s cells. Ever spritz cut-up apples or avocados with lemon juice to keep them fresh? It’s the same damage-fighting vitamin C in citrus juice that helps slow your apples’ browning.

You can easily get your vitamin C from whole foods, but many people take supplements, which are safe in small amounts. Anything over 1,000 milligrams can cause stomach upset and possibly kidney stones, so don’t overdo it.
Where Can I Find It?
To answer my question, a single cup of broccoli has more vitamin C than a medium orange, and a medium red pepper has more than twice what the orange has! Eat any of the following foods, and you’ll be able to get the recommended 60 milligrams every day.

1 medium orange = 70 mg
1 cup chopped pineapple = 79 mg
1 cup broccoli = 81 mg
1 cup strawberries = 98 mg
1 medium red pepper = 152 mg

I get my vitamin C & the rest of my vitamins from Omnitrition's Omni4® liquid vitamins. It comes with 122mg vitamin C, but you can't overdose. Omnitrition® uses a specially patented micellization process that enables vitamins and minerals to become water-soluble so your body absorbs what it needs and flushes the rest. Therefore, your body cannot store toxic amounts. It gives me a healthy start every day!

What Can You Do About High Cholesterol?

1. It isn't just those who are overweight that get high cholesterol. How much cholesterol you produce is mostly genetic. 75% of the cholesterol in your body is produced in the liver & other cells.

2. Both good(HDL) & bad(LDL) cholesterol are important, because HDL clears LDL from your blood.
Omni Smart® is Omnitrition's® oral chelator.  It roto-rooters your blood vessels from plaque.

3. Eating 2 apples a day lowers your overall cholesterol by 14% & lowers LDL by 23%.

4. What else can you do to help? Increase your physical activity, quit smoking, & lose at least 10% of your body weight can increase your HDL by 20-30%.  Take Omni 'Drops'® & drop all the weight you want.  I lost 35# in 6 weeks.  It is fast & easy.

5. Did you know babies that are breast fed ingest 6x the amount of cholesterol than the average adult? Early exposure to cholesterol may improve the bodies ability to metabolize cholesterol later in life.

I don't know about you, but I would much rather take nutritional supplements & exercise than take medication, that have side effects, for cholesterol. My side effects have been feeling great! Many were able to quit taking medication for cholesterol & high blood pressure by taking Omni Smart®, as well as, losing weight on the Omni 'Drops'®.
