In a recent German study, women who took pine bark supplement, Pycnogenol, had a more glowing complexion after 12weeks taking 25mg 3 times a day. This works because the supplement boosted the women's levels of an enzyme that generates hyaluronic acid by 44%. Hyalyronic acid is the main agent in keeping skin firm & dewy. Researchers believe this supplement's success is due to its antioxidant & anti-inflammatory properties. Pycnogenol, also, boosted elasticity & smoothness while reducing wrinkles slightly according to these researchers.

What is Choline?
Choline is a natural substance that is often classified as a member of the B vitamin family. This fatty acid is found in lecithin, acetylcholine, & posphatidylcholine. Thought to be important in the maintenance of cognitive abilities, this nutrient helps with alertness & the ability to concentrate on difficult tasks, as well as keep the memory sharp & aid in the ability to assimilate new information with relative ease. There is evidence that choline has a direct impact on the ability of the brain to produce neurotransmitters that are necessary for good emotional & mental health. Ingesting enough of this fatty acid daily can aid in keeping the mood balanced & relatively free from depression, anxiety, and various types of manic disorders, making this nutrient an important tool in dealing with many types of phobias. The presence of ample choline can, also, help the brain be aware of hunger or in detecting when the body has had enough food. Choline is, also, very important to the function of the liver. Along with helping to remove toxins & wastes, this fatty acid also helps to prevent fat from accumulating in the liver. With proper amounts of this nutrient in the diet each day, the chances of developing problems with the liver are greatly minimized.

Having 1 Sugary Drink a Day May Raise Heart Risk
Study: Men who drank 1 sugar-sweetened beverage daily had 20% higher risk of heart disease than non-drinkers.
On March 12, 2012, a new study suggests just 1 sugar-sweetened drink a day may be enough to raise a man's risk for heart disease. Men who drank only 1 sugary drink a day had 20% higher risk of heart disease than did non-drinkers, per researcher Frank Hu, MD, PhD, professor of nutrition & epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. "This study provides strong evidence that higher consumption of sugary beverages is an important risk factor for heart disease", he says. "Even moderate consumption, only 1 soda per day, is associated with a 20% risk." Hu's team followed almost 43,000 men in the Health Professionals Follow-up Study. Previously, they conducted a similar study with women. In that study, they also found a link between sugar-sweetened drinks & heart disease. "In this one we tried to replicate the results in men", he tells WebMD. The results are very consistent, he says. "That is really enhancing the validity of the findings." The Sugar Association took exception with the findings, stressing that sugar is not the main culprit, but lifestyle. So did the American Beverage Association.
Study Details:Hu & his team asked the men, aged 40-75, to report their beverage-drinking habits. From January 1986 to December 2008, the men reported on their diet & other health habits every 2 years. They provided a blood sample halfway through the study. As the researchers followed the men they looked to see who had heart disease, which was defined as a heart attack. During that time, there were 3,683 heart attacks. Next, the researchers divided the men into 4 groups, depending on their sugar-sweetened drink habits. These drinks included sodas, carbonated non-colas, fruit punches, lemonade, & other non-carbonated fruit drinks, but did not include 100% fruit juices. These groups were:
| |
Those in the last group were 20% more likely to have a heart attack than the non-drinkers, Hu found. This was true even after accounting for other factors, such as age, smoking, exercise, alcohol drinks, diet, weight, & family history of heart disease. They looked at blood samples. Men who drank sugar-sweetened drinks daily had higher indicators for heart disease than the non-drinkers. Those who had a daily sugar-sweetened drink had higher levels of blood fats, called triglycerides, which is a risk factor for heart disease. Another risk factor, they had lower levels of HDL, the good cholesterol.
What can explain the link?"There are at least 3 things going on,"Hu says. "One is increased body weight, an immediate effect of drinking sugar-sweetened beverages. The second thing is blood lipids. It increases triglycerides & decreases HDL." The drinks, also, increase inflammatory indicators liked with heart disease, he says, such as C-reactive protein.
Perspectives:Robert Lustig, MD, professor of clinical pediatrics at the University of California San Francisco, who has researched childhood & adult obesity, reviewed the findings. In his own research, he says, he has found a link between sugar-sweetened drinks & high blood pressure, another risk factor for heart disease. Christina M. Shay, PhD, assistant professor at the University of Oklahoma, Lawton, found in her own research a link between sugar-sweetened drinks & heart disease in women.
The Industry Weigh-in:Charles Baker, PhD, chief science officer at the Sugar Association, takes issue with the findings. Singling out sugar is not the answer to fighting obesity & heart disease, he says. Instead, people should reduce calories & exercise more, he says. The American Beverage Association says other factors, such as stress, could have played a role.
Diet Advice:Those who love such drinks don't have to give them up entirely, Hu says. "One or 2 a week, I don't think that's going to be a major problem," he says. "We should treat soda as some kind of treat, not a regular event," he tells WebMD.
*The American Heart Association recommends drinking no more than 450 calories of sugary drinks a week. That's fewer than 3 12-oz. sugared drinks. On any day, about half the people in the U.S. drinks a sugary drink, the CDC reports. One in 20 drinks more than 4 12-oz. sugared beverages per day, it finds.
Omni 4®: A report by JAMA in June 2001, stated that the federal government is recommending all Americans take a multivitamin every day. Why? Because our soils are depleted of natural nutrients & our bodies don't get what they need each day in our diets. According to the Physician's Desk Reference, liquid vitamins are 96-98% absorbable, vs. only 10-20% of vitamins in pill or tablet form. Omni 4® is micellized, which means that the fat soluble vitamins are broken down into the smallest particles possible for faster absorption. Because of this process, your body will absorb what it needs & flush out what it doesn't. No vitamins are stored in your organs, unlike with fat soluble vitamins. Puts balance in your body & helps get rid of toxins that build up in your system. Most diseases & illnesses can be attributed to lack of proper nutrition. Taking Omni 4® every day will ensure you are giving your body what it needs. Also, contains CoQ10, "the spark of life," an anti-aging nutrient that helps with renal failure, congestive heart failure, hypertension, diabetes & more!
Omni Smart®: Also, known as a "roto-rooter" for your heart, has minerals & natural ingredients that support heart & blood vessel function. Heart attack & strokes are the leading causes of death for people over the age of 50. People who have a family history of heart disease would especially benefit from this product. Helps to lower cholesterol & blood pressure.
Extra Enhancers®: Stabilizes blood sugar levels. Also, helps to reduce, or stop all together, sugar cravings, converts sugars to energy instead of fat. It reduces the risk of glucose intolerance. GREAT for people with diabetes or hypoglycemia.
PhasoTrim®: Made out of white kidney beans, each phaso capsule blocks up to 400 starch/carbohydrate calories from absorbing into your system. PhasoTrim® reduces the amount of insulin secreted by the pancreas & helps burn existing fat. Take it before that sugary drink.
OmniTrim Chito®: Chito® has the unique ability to attach itself to the lipids or fats in your stomach before they are digested. Chito® surrounds some of the dietary fat and prevents its absorption in the digestive tract. Because Chito® is not digestible, it has no calories. Chito®, also:

How to Lose Weight Around the Clock
1. Get Some Early Exercise"Studies show that most people who wear pedometers clock up more steps before lunch compared to after lunch," says accredited dietitian Kate Di Prima. "Morning exercise raises your heart rate & metabolism early to give you physical energy for hours, so from that perspective it also helps burn more calories throughout the day." Depending on where you live, there are also generally lower pollution levels in the morning.
2. Have Breakfast"Eating breakfast kick-starts your metabolism, especially since we don't eat for around ten hours overnight," says Di Prima. "Eggs are a high-satiety food & good to begin the day with."Keep your carbohydrate intake light at breakfast if you're trying to lose weight; think one slice of wholegrain toast instead of two, and include beans or spinach rather than the empty calories of white bread, jam & butter. "Aim to get 25 percent of your total day's calories at breakfast, with five other small meals throughout the day. Think breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dinner like a pauper & 2 small snacks inbetween.
I start my day with Omni 4® & Charge®. Gives my body what it needs & energy! Omni 4® & Charge® is a marriage made in heaven!
3. Skip the Morning LatteForgo the large, full-fat latte in favor of a small, skim latte, or better still, try tea. "This will save a lot of calories," says naturopath Kevin Griffiths. "It will also help keep sugar cravings in check, and blood sugar levels on an even keel."
Extra Enhancers® & Charge® from Omnitrition® help balance blood sugar & stop food cravings.
4. Ditch the JuiceHave an apple instead. "A glass of apple juice has the calories of almost three apples," says Di Prima. Studies also show that regular fruit juice intake may increase diabetes risk by 50% due to massive sugar hits. "Also, the fiber, which is what helps you fill up faster, is left out of the juice. By making this one swap you'll save calories every day."
I love apples! But Fiber N Mor® helps to keep me regular, too.
5. Love Your Lunch"Don't eat at your desk. Get outside, go for a walk & be conscious when you do eat of what's going into your mouth," says Di Prima. "If you want to cut carbs, have a stir-fry with extra sprouts & veggies, but ask for fewer or no noodles. Eat fish with salad instead of fries, and if you must have bread, ditch the top of the sandwich & have it open."
I like to eat my lunch outside. Get my Vitamin D & destress at the same time. Omnitrition® has Phaso Trim® & OmniTrim Chito® to block carb & fat calories, too.
6. Avoid the Afternoon Sugar SlumpIf you don't want to look like the 'Michelin Man', drink water & avoid soft drinks. A Harvard study of 6000 people found that drinking just one soft drink a day (diet or standard) increased the risk of obesity by 31%. And now there's more evidence that diet drinks are as bad as normal ones; one university study found that rats fed artificially sweetened drinks for ten days gained more weight than those fed sugar-sweetened drinks. Researchers theorize that when you eat artificial sweeteners, your body prepares for a large intake of calories. When these fail to materialize, your body demands food by making you feel hungry. Di Prima agrees. "Soft drinks are liquid candy. Aim to make water the main drink that passes your lips, outside of a daily coffee & a glass or two of skim or low-fat milk. And aim for a maximum three or four glasses of wine or beer per week. "Beat sugar & salt slumps by having solid food snacks at your desk, such as low-fat yogurt or fresh fruit."
Mid-afternoon when I start getting a little tired, I might take some more Charge®, drink Thermo Herbal Tea®, drink some water, or have half an apple.
7. Breathe EasierAlthough morning exercise suits many people, for athletes looking for that extra endurance, or for those who are asthmatic or easily exhausted, working out between 4pm & 5pm may be best. One study of 4800 people by the American College of Chest Physicians found that lung function peaks (at about 20% higher) during this period, with midday exercise returning the lowest lung function."The main thing is to exercise at a time that's best for you," says Rob Daly, an exercise physiologist from the University of Melbourne. "For people with depression, sunlight in the morning is good. For others, afternoon works better. The main thing is to do it, not just think about it."
I no longer have any asthma issues thanks to Omni 4® liquid vitamins & Thermo Herbal Tea® from Omnitrition®!
Before I go to the gym, I take Charge® & Omni Sport®. Omni Sport® gives me more stamina & endurance!
8. Enjoy a DrinkThere have been countless studies trumpeting the health benefits of moderate daily alcohol intake (emphasis on "moderate"), with wines, especially the newer organic breeds, linked to reductions in arterial & cardiovascular diseases. So go ahead & have one.But try to aim for low-alcohol (and therefore low-calorie) varieties, and don't be fooled by the latest low-carb beers; it's the calories that count, and there's actually little difference in calories content between standard beer & the low-carb varieties.
Take Phaso Trim® to help block carb calories & still get the benefits of drinking wine.
9. Stop Eating"Unless you are an insulin-dependent diabetic, it's better not to eat two to three hours before bed," says Di Prima. "If you are tempted, give your body an 'automatic' brain signal that eating is over for the night. This might include washing the dishes, putting away all the leftovers, flossing & cleaning your teeth thoroughly. If you've done this, you're less likely to be tempted to put anything but herbal tea past your lips late at night."
Sometimes I get hungry before going to bed. I would eat an apple & still wake up weighing less!
Take Nite Lite® for best night's sleep & burns calories while you sleep!

Super Food for the Brain!
From Real Age: Antioxidant-Rich Blueberries: The Super Brain Food By Mehmet C. Oz, MD, and Michael F. Roizen, MD
Blueberries improve memory & learning, and delay age-related cognitive decline like that seen with Alzheimer's disease & Parkinson's disease.
Omnitrition's Remind® is Complete Brain Nutrition....Omnitrition's Remind® is formulated to provide a healthy amount of Choline to support optimal memory. Choline and the rest of Remind's® ingredients, including vitamins & minerals, is what the brain uses to make the primary neurotransmitter, acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is involved with verbal function, the ability to write, read & verbal memory. A good example of what happens when the cholinergic system in the brain fails is what you see in Alzheimer's disease. It, also, has pyroglutamic acid to support memory & communication between both lobes of the brain and DMAE, which helps maintain mental focus & clarity of thought.
Blueberries are a super food for your brain. They're high in vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants called flavonoids or polyphenols. Flavonoids interact with proteins & enzymes, in your brain, that keep your brain younger. Scientists don't know exactly how all those elements play together, but blueberry flavonoids do seem to keep you smarter. People who eat a high-flavonoid diet stay sharper than folks with low-flavonoid diets. In fact, drinking blueberry juice daily can improve your memory function by 30%.
PhytoNutrients®: Omnitrition's® Stress BusterAlso known as secondary plant metabolites, polyphenols are natural components of a wide variety of plants. Foods rich in polyphenols include: onions, apples, tea, red wine, red grapes, grape juice, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cranberries, & some nuts. Polyphenols are subclassified in nonflavonoids & flavonoids. Flavonoids have been linked to a lower risk of heart disease in some studies. One of the most important groups of phytochemicals are the phytosterols. These are plant based sterols that act to modulate the human endocrine system. One of the most important sterols is DHEA. Scientific research has found that adequate DHEA in the body can slow the aging process, as well as, prevent, improve, & often reverse conditions like cancer, heart disease, memory loss, obesity, & osteoporosis.
SHIELD®: Omnitrition®'s Very Own Antioxidant!Antioxidants are substances that may protect your cells against the effects of free radicals. Free radical damage may lead to cancer, heart disease, as well as, other diseases.Heidi Whitehair, Buckley, WA- Since Alzheimer's disease & cancer runs in my family, I take my Shield® every day.
Thermo Herbal Tea® from Omnitrition®!
| |
Ready to keep your brain smart & young? Here's how to slip more blueberries into your diet: 1. Toss blueberries into a smoothie. Protect your memory & cognition by sipping a smoothie made with frozen blueberries, yogurt, or low-fat milk. Add half a banana & some flaxseeds to increase memory even more. 2. Enjoy a brain-boosting blueberry salad. Like most berries, blueberries are great with more than just cereal. Try them in salads, too. 3. Eat frozen blueberries. Fill ice cube trays with unsweetened blueberry juice & toss them into cold club soda. Bonus: Frozen blueberries maintain their nutrients & are relatively inexpensive.
